September Serenabe - Bull Elk

"September Serenade" - Elk
Image Size: 24" x 36"

"This painting was inspired by a trip to the Canadian Rockies in early September. I came across this river bed just outside of Jasper, Alberta. As I was photographing this landscape I could here the bugle of a near by bull elk. Bull's will bugle to attract cows and to challenge rivals. In the "rut" a bull's neck and hump can double in size, its antlers will darken with white tips and the mane hair will grow longer and darker. All of this is to make him look more imposing to rival bull's and more attractive to cows. Elk cows are drawn to the bugle of mature dominate bull's and form harems with these suitor's."
