Day 1
The first day of this workshop starts with a presentation of over 150 different photos illustrating different camera effects, compositions and exposures. These photo's will help demonstrate how to set up a shot to achieve the best photo available. Each participant will receive their own copy of the presentation on CD and an accompanying number sheet to identify the different shots. On day one we will all learn to use our cameras on "manuel" selection and take manually photographed pictures. Participant are asked to bring their cameras instruction manuel to assist in operation.
Day 2
With the previous days knowledge we will move to the outdoors and spend the day in the field photographing. In the field we will learn how to create many different camera effects such as, blurring, using F-stop, bracketing, focus lock, light meter use and more. We will all learn first hand how to compose a photograph using such natural elements as cropping, lighting, positioning, staging, altering colour balance, use of F-stop for motion and many more. Day 3 is an in the field day and participant should bring a camera and a tripod if they have one.
Day 3
On day three we will take the photos we have taken in the field and learn how to compose several together to make a stunning composition. Each participant will bring 5 photos that we all will critique. Then as a group we will learn how to compose these pictures starting with how to use tracing paper overlays and thumbnail sketches to create composition. We will learn how to identify the strengths of the photo and manipulate it to create strong composition. He will analyze such things as the photos strength in lighting, composition, colour scheme, structure, balance and many others. On day three participant will be active in the creation of compositions. Participant should bring pencil and tracing paper for the days class.
Day 4
We will learn how to use Adobe Photoshop and Elements to create our compositions. On this day we will learn how to cut and paste pictures, alter lighting, use layers to position, crop, colour correct and position layers. We will all work together to create new composition that I would actually use to paint one of my originals. The goal is to create at least 5 composition of varying elements ( snow, water, landscape, sky, animal). This day is dedicated to learning how to use your computer to create composition, organize your photo collection and achieve quality composition. Participant will not need a computer for this day, but are welcome to bring their own portable if they like. Instruction will be projected so the participant can enjoy the day from the comfort of their own seat.
This workshop is designed to help the participant gain knowledge in the creation of compositions, both traditionally and electronically, the goal being to have a strong understanding of how to compose a picture and create flow and interest.
